Good kit misses great with cheap hardware
This review is for a kit I installed on my 98 GMC Sierra 2WD short bed P/U. This is a high quality kit marred by the exclusion of grade eight hardware (nuts, bolts washers). Considering the price and quality of the other parts, including heavy duty hardware would be appropriate for this kit.
Assembly is pretty straight forward; you will need 7/8 and 11/16 wrenches. Before you start wrenching do yourself a favor: first, remove the spare tire; second, make sure the truck is raised high enough to allow you to sit cross legged underneath the back end (if youre average height this shouldnt be a problem) and third, lay out and match-up all the nuts, washers and bolts to their respective assemblies. It is a royal booger to tighten the frame clamps in this kit and being able to sit under the truck where the spare is stored will allow you access and be able to swing the wrenches; working from below lying on a creeper means youre working against gravity. It would be much better if the tightening torques were listed specifically for each assembly step instead of the seperate table listing the bolt/nut size and its appropriate torque; its dumb. But dont worry cause youll never get the 75 Ft-Lbs required to tighten the axle u-bolts and saddles....the saddles will spread and bend and the bolts will chew through the cheapo mild steel washers...not too impressive for the major connection of the bar to the axle. And dont worry about even getting a torque wrench on the frame clamps. The results are very nice; body roll is greatly reduced and the bar seems to have minimal impact on the ride (it does ride a shade stiffer). Overall a nice addition to your ride...I just wish the instructions were a little better and the hardware was up to par with the rest of the parts.
I have 1998 K1500 Z71 and comes with a anti-sway bar in the front but not in the back. Added the rear anti-sway bar and makes a world of difference. I definitely recommend this product. As for installation: Bolt up to the frame is not real easy but doable - Wheels need to come off and having various extentions to tighten the nuts will help.
